Broads Album 2020 Launch

Published: 3rd March, 2020

Local students launched the ‘Broads Album 2020’, performing 14 original Broads-inspired compositions, on 2nd March at the Marina Theatre Lowestoft.

Picture of music students performing Broads AlbumThe evening showcased 14 original compositions by 25 music students from Sir John Leman High School, Beccles and Lowestoft 6th Form College. It featured group and solo performances ranging in genres from classical and rock, through to ballads and jazz.

To gather inspiration for their compositions the students spent a day exploring various iconic locations in the Broads National Park – Thurne Mill, Halvergate Marshes, Burgh Castle and Filby Broad. The highlight for everyone was watching an otter casually eat an eel, only 5m from us, on the bank at Thurne Mill!

“This is the second Broads Album produced by local students. I never cease to be amazed at how, from the fact-finding trip, so many young people draw differing inspiration and then have the ability to produce high-quality original pieces.”

This is the project’s second “Broads Album” the first was produced in 2018 by students from Lowestoft Sixth Form College and Pakefield High School. Both albums are available to listen to and download for free from SoundCloud below.
