The Route

This circular walk affords good views of several iconic Broads drainage mills including: Palmer’s, Clippesby, Oby, Upton Black, St. Benet’s Level, Thurne and the remains of St. Benet’s Abbey Mill.

Upton Broad and Marshes is a reserve managed by Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT). It is ideal for the wildlife enthusiast so keep an eye out for Lapwing, Marsh harrier, Chinese water deer, Hares, Water Vole or even the less common Norfolk Hawker and Common Crane. The walk is not waymarked but as it is bordered on two sides by the River Bure, Upton Dyke and on a third side by woodland, it is difficult to go wrong and is easy to follow using the map. Dogs are welcome on this walking route but should be kept on a lead and under close control.
