Waveney Valley Walks: Carlton Marshes

Getting Started

Begin this easy going 3 mile walk at the Suffolk Wildlife Trust (SWT) Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve Visitor Centre Car Park, Burnt Hill Ln, Carlton Colville, Lowestoft, NR33 8HU (TM 5080 9201).

The Route

From the Visitor Centre, head out across the marshes to the River Waveney and follow the track returning back along the Angles Way. Carlton Marshes is a wildlife haven and home to variety of birds, mammals and insects including 15 recorded species of dragonfly, it’s a nationally and internationally significant site for conservation. There are toilet and refreshment facilities at the new Carlton Marshes Visitor Centre. Most of the walk is flat with some kissing gates and stiles. It is also possible to walk into Oulton Broad from the starting point at the carpark.
