Wherryman’s Way Walks: Rockland St. Mary

Getting Started
Begin this Norfolk Trails circular walk at Rockland Staithe car park opposite The New Inn. Nearest Post Code NR14 7HP (Grid reference: TG 327 046).
The Route
From the Staithe, walk up the hill along The Street for just over a mile, passing the Post Office and village Stores. Continue along footpaths and green lanes past Surlingham Church and then along the track at the edge of the RSPB Surlingham Church Marsh Reserve and up to the ruins of Saint Saviours Church, the final resting place of Ted and Phyllis Ellis, Founders of the Ted Ellis Trust and Wheatfen Nature Reserve. Follow the loop to Coldham Hall Tavern and then join The Street again and follow the field edge path past the Wheatfen Nature Reserve. As you continue you will be greeted with great views across Rockland Broad. From this point you could taker the short spur route and easy access track to Rockland Broad bird hide before heading back to the car park.
